About
Well hello there! I'm Vicky Garnett a.k.a 'SnappyHapper.' I have been taking photos in both film and digital format since I was a kid with a 110mm toy camera, and was then handed my Dad's Soviet era Zenit-e SLR as a stereotypical angsty teen. While I find portraits and events photography allows an opportunity to connect and communicate with people in a way that is always enjoyable, landscape photography allows for an interaction and engagement that has grown to allow me to approach these apparently unchanging scenes in a different way as the years go by.
Outside photography, I grew up in Somerset (England) and have been living in Ireland since 2003. I love hiking, often using this as a means to scout for good photo spots, and in 2024 attempted the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge with a couple friends (we only managed 2 of the 3 peaks, but I had climbed that 3rd peak in my teens, so I can claim to have done the challenge, it just took me 27 years rather than 12 hours!). I have a gorgeous 'Borsetter' dog who was born deaf but doesn't let that stop her exploring. She's a little trooper and I love her to bits! I am also married, and my husband has recently got into wildlife photography, so now he's caught my chronic photography bug too!
I also love all other crafty and creative hobbies, including pottery, knitting and painting, and I'm always willing to try out new crafty things in general (most recently I've been giving lino-printing a go, with mixed results!). I've got a PhD in Linguistics (sociolinguistics and dialectology - let me analyse your '/l/'s!) and work in Digital Humanities.
